Winterbourne Steepleton is in the south west of the county not far from Dorchester. A winterbourne is a stream that flows in the winter only and in many cases it passes into the name of the place, It is a pretty little place. Not far from the A35 which gives access to many attractive places along the lovely Dorset coast.
Wimborne Minster to give its full name although often referred to as Wimborne. Have you seen a Town Crier? There is one that can often be seen on weekends around the square and the Church.
Weymouth is a delightful seaside town that has been popular with families for generations. There is so much to do in Weymouth that it does not really matter what the weather is!! It is half way along the Jurassic Coast and there are two Nature Reserves, Radipole and Lodmoor. There is access to the stunning South West Coast Path.
Sherborne, in the northwest of the county on the edge of the Blackmore Vale is a beautiful town. Sherbourne Castle was built by Sir Walter Raleigh. Sherborne Abbey is a glorious, stately building that looks like a cathedral, it was when the Saxons built it.
Lyme Regis a pretty and attractive seaside town in the very south west of Dorset. Known as the Pearl of Dorset. Great place if you are interested in fossils with the Jurassic Coast. Access to the South West Coastal Path, great for stunning summer walks.
Bovington, home of the Tank Museum. Six halls showing the history of the tank. With the anniversary of WWI walk in the footsteps of a soldier in that era.
The Cerne Giant is a massive white chalk figure wielding a club on Trendle Hill (or Giant Hill) close to Cerne Abbas. It is now thought that he was not always wielding a club but had a cloak. The origins are unknown. Trendle earthworks are above him.
